I went to our local flea market on the weekend and scored this shoebox filled with old sewing patterns for only a couple of dollars. I couldn't believe my luck. When I got home I saw that most of the patterns were sized for teenagers and were fairly hideous styles. But I did find this funny old design for children's toys- Simplicity 7928, dated 1968. One of the patterns inside was for this drawstring bag (called a 'curler bag' - do you think it's intended for hair curlers- and would children use those?)
Arlo and Keira helped me make these two drawstring bags and the pattern was so simple they could nearly make them by themselves next time. Well, at least do the pinning and cutting. The bag has a circle of cardboard inserted into the base to hold its shape. For the drawstrings, we used cotton twill tape and tied wooden beads on the ends. Perfect for holding art supplies and small toys for car trips. Arlo's already filled his with lego.
