So I made my own dressmaking pins. From normal plain pins, and shrinky-dink plastic (kindly sent to me from the USA by Kate). To make them, I cut out and coloured shapes of the plastic and stuck plain pins through the middle of each piece. After a few minutes baking in the oven, the tops of the pins shrink and harden and stick to the top of the pin. Very easy and fun! Afterwards, I found a tutorial for making these here. (The children also loved playing with shrinky-dink, and made new tags for their school bags.)
My new coloured pins are living in a wool felt pincushion that i couldn't resist buying from Sue's shop.

And now for some 'community notices':
Have you heard about the project Craft Hope? It looks amazing, and the current mission is to make quilts for homeless children in Michigan this Christmas.
If you live in Wellington, please note that there is a public meeting tonight to discuss the Maranui Surf Lifesaving Club's future with the Wellington City Council. More info here.
Also in Wellington, Craft 2.0 will be on at the New Dowse Gallery this Saturday. It will be great- wish I was going!
