I quite like mushrooms, especially those big flat field mushrooms, for eating. Fried with lots of garlic and butter, on toasted brown bread. That's the best way to eat them I think. But even more than eating them, I like seeing them popping up in the garden and under the trees in the park. Because they herald the autumn, my favourite season. Here is a little mushroom sampler I embroidered over the weekend, inspired by this book I wrote about last week.
It features a few of the mushrooms I've seen so far in Norway: standard sjampinjong/brown mushrooms, blekksopp/common inkcaps, toadstools and røyksopp/puffballs (literally 'smoke-mushrooms'- such a cool name.) I also learned that 'røyksopp' is the name of a Norwegian band. Amazing what you can find out on the internet.
