I made this patchwork blanket/mat for a friend's baby, Ruby. I really wanted to give it a bold, modern feel so I used up my small stash of fab Aunty Cookie fabrics and teamed them with some Japanese prints, vintage fabric from Austria and a bit of red ricrac.
Because I thought it would be nice to make her a mat to play on outside or to keep her cosy when in her carseat, I didn't finish it like a proper quilt. I sandwiched a layer of thick cotton flannel between the pieced front and back, and then (after sewing it all together), tied the finished quilt at regular intervals with red embroidery thread.
