I fell in love with Venice during our short adventure into the heart of the city. I think the children did, too- they were happy to wander with us, somewhat aimlessly, down the narrow, busy streets, looking through shop windows (full of handmade masks, pastries, chocolates, dolls, bread and pasta) and imagining what it would be like to live in one of the little stone apartments and have our name on a doorbell like this.
We stood on this famous bridge, staring at the busy river below, for quite a long time. (view from it is the second picture above). A and K were happy to discover that their heads fitted exactly into the decorative holes along the bottom, so they had a better view than most.
K and I brought home a necklace of Venetian glass beads each- it was hard not to be dazzled by the strings of them displayed on the street stalls. K's is the light blue one, mine is plain red. I didn't notice the paint chipping off mine until we got home- I suppose I shouldn't have bought the first one I liked. Never mind, I still love it even if it is plastic.
