Some things in our living area brightening up this grey day: a beeswax candle brought back from Poland by Tom (I daresay we are becoming more Norwegian by the day- we buy tealight candles in bulk with our groceries now...)

These two gocco prints that I decided to frame as a pair- I like them together so much. I loved being part of the recent gocco swap and now we have new prints in every room of the house, thanks to my swap partners. In this frame, the top print is by Erin and the bottom one by Leya (both seriously good blogs, by the way).

A curtain I made using that special fabric- to separate the children's room from our living room, and create a bit more darkness in there for them. I made the basic curtain from plain linen, then sewed the patterned panel just under the top casing, so it's double-layered.

And speaking of light sources- have you heard about Earth Hour? Sorry for blogging about it so late. Join us in turning off all our lights for an hour at 8pm, 29th March. Lucky we have all those tealights.

horseshoes

I've been doing a bit of printing on fabric this week, using my gocco machine. These little shoes were made by printing with brown ink onto beige linen, using these screens which i thought would be sweet teamed up with some Liberty lawn I have (i've used it here on the reverse side.) I like using my gocco to print on fabric, I'm hoping to do a bit more experimenting with it on the weekend.

All in all, good shoes for walking in the forest... or, being carried, as the case may be.

Today I re-stocked my etsy shop with lots of new baby shoes. But I think these folksy 'horseshoes' have to be my favourite. Something about having a horse on one's shoes appeals to me. 

Thank you for all your kind comments on yesterday's post. I read them to Arlo, and he was Very Pleased. If you're wondering where you can get big rolls of paper like that, I'm pretty sure you can buy similar reams of newsprint at art supply/stationary stores, but we bought our roll of recycled newsprint from Ikea- just happened to see it amongst all the children's toys and furniture. Back in our pre-Ikea days, I sometimes taped together pieces baking paper, tracing paper, or dressmaker's paper, then turned it over, ready for drawing/building tracks/lego on. The fun goes on...

Walking along a path between two lakes.

It was a fun and sunny weekend here- and I'm finding it a bit hard to get back into the rhythm of daily blogging for some reason. I am not yet ready to admit to myself that it has something to do with the big tv that sits in a corner of our living room in this new house. There are 400 channels. 400! Lots of them are in different languages. We haven't lived with a television set for a long time and I'd forgotten about how tempting it is to have it on, just in the background, but then it sort of creeps into the foreground. Anyway, I am going to quickly move on to the subject of knitting now. Much nicer.

My Mum sent me some skeins of her hand-dyed, handspun yarn a while ago, and I made this little pixie hat with the blue skein. What I really like about Mum's yarns is that she usually ends them with a length of merino, which makes a very soft edging for a baby's hat. This was a make-it-up-as-you-go-along type of hat, and I knitted the earflaps on afterwards by picking up stitches on either side and knitting downwards. They're edged in blanket stitch and plaited ties.

It's a bit small for the 3-yr old, but I'm sending it to a friend's baby for their upcoming winter. For the rest of the week, I'm going to do a kind of photoblog here while I try to catch up with some of my email writing. Happy Easter, if you celebrate it...

three years

Keira turned three today. My Mum wanted me to send her a picture of the birthday girl, but she wasn't in the mood. This was the best I could do.

I made K this little reversible apron and bought her some small wooden baking tools. She helped me stir her cake, and then wore the apron covered in chocolate mixture all day.

And Tom bought these home for her. The day she was born, our friend Suzy came over in the evening with a bunch of freesias and a bowl of fresh cranberries from her garden. They'll forever make me think of Keira, now.
