roadside flowers
I found these little shiny flowers on the walk from school today, growing against a brick wall. So these are the flowers that grow out of concrete here. Shiny and yellow, and clean.
I bought some vintage fabric a while ago that made me think of roadside flowers- it's a light cotton fabric with a pale brown botanical pattern, and I made it into a top using the Built By Wendy pattern - Simplicity 3835. I think I am the last person in craft-blog-world to make this one- but I am really happy with it, and have a couple more cut out already. It's very quick and simple to make.

Beautiful... I love every image you share from your new places. And this top is just gorgeous. I love seeing that pattern in such a "sophisticated" fabric, casual yet perfectly lovely.

That is indeed a lovely fabric, and what beautiful flowers. I confess - I am here with a favour to ask. I was wondering if you could help me with some detective work - I recently bought a Norwegian coffee set with 'Figgjo Flint' on the bottom. Any information I can find on the internet seems to be purely ebay pages - would you know anything more? There is a photo on my blog (it really is a very pretty coffee set - I can't wait to use it!). Alas, I had better stop procrastinating and return to my essay.

What pretty fabric Melissa. Hope the weather is mild enough for you to start wearing it. Sweet flowers too, do they have a scent?

this is the perfect fabric for this pattern!
I still have so much trouble with picking the right fabric for the right project. I guess it all comes with experience.
I am sure you look lovely in this.

That pattern looks so good made up, nicer than on the pattern cover actually. I will have to make it myself!

Hello, I happened upon a link to your blog from a friend's, I really liked the name :) Anyway, having devoured the contents, I was wondering when you would have some new baby slippers available for sale? I have a 3mo baby girl, and your embroidered slippers are divine!

and your top looks wonderful! i am so scared to sew clothes... why?? it's heartening to hear that it's an easy pattern... i just got some bright summer cotton with the idea to make clothes, so perhaps this would be a good place to start?

I love that design ... just thinking, how functional that would be here in Dunners over a long sleeve shirt or thermal.

Hi Melissa - I met Sally at Nelson Library (where I work) the other day and she put me onto your site. Also just read the article in NZ House and Garden - lovely. Thanks for your inspiring work.

Love the first photo - beautiful. Would make a stunning postcard.
Fabulous top as well. A wee bit chilly for it in this hemisphere right now though!

You're not the last but the almost last person to make this one. I haven't yet.
The fabric makes me think of my grandmother. She was a seamstress and loved beautiful things. Anything from beautiful boxes to bedlinen but especially beautiful fabric.
