from the fifties

50s_dress_2

I thought my blog needed a bit of colour, after yesterday's post. So here are some clothes I was given over the weekend by the same lady that gifted me with her mother's craft stash last week.

This is a printed-satin dress that she remembers her mother making and wearing in the 1950's. It features a boned bodice, a side zip, and a big bow that makes up the neckline and then wraps around to the back of the dress. It was inside a bag with a matching bolero jacket, pattern notes and all the leftover fabric scraps.

In the bag, there was also this satin under-dress she'd made herself,

and this silk shawl/stole. I feel as though I should book some tickets to the opera, or something, so I have occasion to wear some of these things.

More beautiful items! I am sure if you don't find an occasion to wear soe of them that you will find an excellent use for the fabric

ha! that would be my problem - nowhere to wear them to! i hope you find an occasion.

Geez just make the day an occasion to wear it! Once it warms up I would be in that thing! It is beautiful!
You are very lucky to be gifted such treasures!

What lovely items (and splashes of color :)

What fun! That little under-dress looks so comfortable. And what a great color!

They are lovely - I would not need an occasion to wear that gorgeous dress - I would just wear it around the house.

Oh my goodness! That dress is a dream! Everybody just rushed over to see what I was GASPING at!

How gorgeous. I can remember my Mum having clothes like that. So lovely. I'd go for round the house or have a summer tea party, if you can wait that long.

OMG that's a pretty dress!

be still my heart!!!

wow that is an AMAZING colourful dress, I hope it fits well and that you have MANY occasions to wear it.

really, that dress is .... I have no words.

eeeek!

oh my goodness that dress is simply gorgeous, the fabric!!

how lucky you are! so fun and nice. i love vintsge items, especially handmade. i like to think of stories that go with the items and i wonder what the person was thinking while making it.

I vote you model it for us! Wear it out one evening and swan around pretending to go to the opera... meet some ladies at a cafe maybe. :)

Beautiful pieces. It is nice to seem them in such good shape.... they are very stylish.

What prizes! Amazing.

You don't need an occasion to wear those beautiful clothes - just for the weather to warm and then wear them out with joy in your heart. They will a smile to the face of those around you. Things that wait for best, or an occasion, often wait a long time!

Oh, oh, oh heaven! I used to sell vintage clothing and textiles in the UK and as you know, you just can't get decent old suff here. The 1950's bathing suit is stunning and would simply be a work of art hanging on the wall. Does it have boning on the inside? Oh gorgeous!

how beautiful! I love the shawl, the colours are gorgeous ,lucky you, don't wait to wear them just throw a big chunky cardi on top and you're all set !!

It's amazing how these clothing still look so nice after 50 years. They ooze such femininity. :)

I agree with Rach, no occasion needy for that gorgeous dress. lucky!

wow! this is so 50s diva :) hope you will have the lovely warm weather to wear it soon! xox
