winter beach path

Beach

We discovered a little path over the weekend that leads to this winter beach. I think of it as that because I can't imagine it in summer. It's so perfect in its deserted state, with frosty grass on the edge of the sand. Yes, there's something very calming about a beach in winter.

Inspired by these colours, I made an apron which is something I've been wanting to do for a long time.

It's a present for a friend who is a wonderful cook. I used the 'reversible apron' pattern from Lotta Jansdotter's Simple Sewing and am so thrilled with this design- especially the slightly fitted shape. I am already looking forward to making another one. This side is a cotton in blue, white and brown stripes, and the reverse is a crisp chocolate brown linen-blend.

The applique on one side is a direct copy of the one in the pattern. It's unimaginative of me, but I really liked the little vases with the embroidered stems.

How perfectly peaceful it looks at your winter beach. I love the apron, you've inspired me to give it a go. My Lotta book is due back at the library in 3 days...

It's true - there is nothing better than the beach on a quiet winters day - the sun dappling the water or the clouds reflecting the grey of the sea......it is truly a great place to be!

I love your apron!!

It looks great Melissa, and the beach might become a favorite place to visit.

Love the beach and love the apron. these little vases are so cute...too right you copied them!

Love the apron. Our beach is best in the winter too :)

How lovely to find the little path to the beach, which is a wonderful place for families year round! Maybe you will inspire me to take mine to the beach too! I think they would love it.

The apron looks so pretty on you. I guess you will want to make another for yourself too!

This apron is gorgeous!! I love Lotta's book too.

beautiful! what a gorgeous beach - it looks like the perfect walking place.
and the apron too, is beautiful! i have that pattern but haven't made it yet - it's nice to see how it looks on a real person.
love it!

I also love the beach in winter, and that one looks perfect! Lovely apron too. I think I'll have to buy that book - there are a lot of great projects from it popping up around blogland lately.

What a lovely winterbeach! Maybe I should take a walk at one of my local beaches? :) Love that apron too!

ohhhhh beautiful. I have that apron on my to do list.... I luv yours....

Lovely work! Your embroidery is quite nice, and that chocolately colour! What a gift!

Also, I really love that yellow bead-board behind you.

Can you beat a winter walk in pink boots? I don't think so.

I live near a beach and you are totally right... in winter its hard to imagine how it will look in the hot weather... and i've seen this one for years:)

The apron is lovely!

Your apron came out beautifully! And nothing beats the beach in winter in my book.

Yay!! I can leave you comments again. Goodness knows what I had done.

I have so loved seeing your beautiful pictures of winter and the lovely landscape you live in. You know I actually prefer the beach in winter. Is that weird? (Idon't swim so the beach in summer just means sand in my pants and sunburn!)

I have seen and read about you using this Lotta Jansdotter book so much, I think I might have to ask the library to consider buying it in!! The apron looks fantastic! I love Tahuna beach in winter, especially when it is slightly stormy and there is a certain electricity in the air. Feels like Im in Scotland or somewhere romantic like that!! :o)

oh but it is so cute and perfect! just lovely!

So chic! You should sell them!

Luv your apron. Going to make one tomorrow, red and white checked on one side and the other side solid red with checked vases and green stems.

How nice to be able to take a walk to a calming, inviting beach.. The vase + flower applique is simply pretty.. Nice apron! :)

that big kid in the picture can't possibly be keira! wow. what a great beach. what a great apron.

i ought to try this too! it looks gorgeous...can wear outside as a dress! haha!

The little vases were the first thing that caught my eye when I initially looked through the Lotta book.
I'm sure that you're all going to be making good use of that gorgeous beach throughout the year.
Hope that all's well with you.
Bye for now, Al.

Lovely! Both the beach and the apron.
