the sun hours
The light here is so amazing at the moment. Before we moved here, we mentally prepared ourselves for a few months of serious cold and daytime darkness. But, apart from the first week we were here, most days have been clear and bright. This is at about 11am, in our garden. It's light and sunny, but the quality of light is different to that in NZ. Inside, it's really hard to take photos of the things I've been working on- everything has a sort of white glow. So I'll use that as my excuse for not showing any of my finished crafting.
I have been doing some very slow knitting on this brown hat, having continuous small failures with the things I've been trying to sew, and 'wasting' time watching numerous vintage Kate Bush videos on youtube. She's just so good.
In the evenings, I've been trying a bit of wool embroidery, using these beautiful dyed skeins given to me last year by Caireen, stitching onto a store-bought black scarf. I hope to take a clear photo of that soon. It's a surprisingly calming and enjoyable way to spend the evening.
And Arlo and Keira's project: collecting pine cones that drop onto the driveway.

Wow - I'm never the first to comment on th! :)
I've been doing a little hand-sewing too - I found a piece of linen with a huge butterfly on it, and I'm hand-quilting it to make it into a bag. It's slow work, but nice. I'll post pictures when it's done.
Have a lovely day, sweetheart.

That sun through the trees is very restful looking. Lovely colours for your embroidery. And what cute little pine cones! My hubby is a big KBush fan! I'm surprised Keira wasn't named Kate, ha ha!

Love the photograph of the light and your wool looks lovely.

I am glad to hear that you are finding it light and pretty here. The weather certainly has been lovely the last while now and unseasonably warm! My freinds with small children who live in my neighborhood were even outside at the playground today. Most days people seem to be in hiding until spring.
The embroidery colors you are working with are so inviting and I am very intruiged to see what you are making. You always seem to be up to something new and exciting!

The wool is beautiful...knitting for me is like reading a book....can only be done in the evening!

It sounds magical. I know the winter light in Maine, where I'm from, is radically different than that in the Netherlands (where I live now). Assuming there actually IS any light in the Netherlands ... winter can be one long twilight here.

You get that white glow in your photos too?! I thought I was the only one. Lovely pictures though and I can't wait to see what you've been working on :)

Beautiful wool, what a lovely way to spend an evening.

I know the problems with daylight, all pictures get this weird light and it's impossible to get correct colors in pictures! I'd advice you to take the things you will take pictures of outside when the daylight's at its best...

Isn't it wonderful how the light of every place is different? Sometimes when I see a beautiful painting I think -now where did they get the inspiration for such a specific palette? And then when -often while travelling- I stumble upon the place where the painting was made, and I understand. A bit, because, light is always magic!
And I just love your pictures anyway, even in funny inside light. Show, show!

That first shot is breahtakingly beautiful. It looks really dusky.
Kate Bush - I served her a couple of times when I was a waitress/student. She's teeny tiny. I asked for a signed photo and she posted one to me along with a postcard saying that she liked my smile. I smiled all day after that!!!

Beautiful sky photo! The quality of light in Norway can be very special, even in winter. Love your rainbow of wools...Happy knitting! ((HUGS))

Wonderful! Will you be able to see the Northern Lights from where you live? That would be fantastic. I've only seen them once - in 1963 or 1964 - when I lived in Michigan. For some reason they were visible all over the northern US that night. I'll never forget them.

I was just checking my stats on google analytics.... do you have this? anyway, I could see all these views coming in from Norway on the map so I could see you reading the blog from very far away. Suddenly I was sad! Norway is far, and there was a strange comfort of you being here in NZ, even though we have never met:)
Glad you are enjoying the light. there is a 'snow' or glare setting on my digi cam, maybe yours too?
beautiful photos anyway

Dear Melissa,
Soo.. I am expecting.. We are very very happy. A late summer baby. And my best friend is expecting in Istanbul, a late spring baby, her first my third..
I am going to be selfish here.. Do you have any plans for stocking up the etsy shop for these obvious reasons? No pressure just thought I would check..
Enjoy the beautiful weather and lights and treats over there. Your place sounds amazing. My son would love to see the plans take off and land. He is a plane and helicopter enthusiast at 3 :)
Take care,
ozlen
