on the washing line
My Mum made this quilt for Keira and brought it around yesterday- it got a great reception. Two small children rolling themselves up in it, making it into a tent, and jumping on it. She used a Kaffee Fassett zigzag-block design, and fabrics from his range too.
I love the border best of all- dark brown with big purple chrysanthemums- each one embellished with free-form quilting. Something about this quilt is very well suited to Keira's spirit and personality- and she informed me this morning that it helped her have 'no bad dreams about fish in her bed', which tend to be a recurring problem for her. I don't think any fish would dare to come near her bed, with a quilt of such spirit and colour.
Last night I got my gocco out of its box and made these wee washing line cards. I quite like our washing line, and thought it would make a good design for thank-you cards to send out with my packages.

Totally beautiful quilt. Love all those flowers. And your cards are adorable!

What a darling card! And I like the way it has tinyhappy t-shirts and shoes on the washing line - you're clever!
(Beautiful quilt, too, I'm in awe of your Mama's skills.)

I love those washing line cards so much! And I'm glad Keira has a quilt to keep those darn fish away. Fish in the bed can't be any fun at all.

Beautiful, vibrant quilt and I love the little cards too!
Joe used to have the same bad dream everynight about a biting dog and we finally solved them by getting him to imagine he was a superhero or he had a ball to throw at the dog, or some toffee for it to chew... or whatever. Basically that he could stop the nightmare by using the power of his imagination. I had to help him imagine a solution for a few nights, but then that was it! No more problems. This may work for Kiera, although she is a little bit younger than Joe was. Sounds like the quilt will help too.

Beautiful quilt (Melissa's mum) and cards (Melissa). They reminded me of a super glass designer I once met -she used to have clothes pegs as motifs in her very impressive pieces. Most of the time, people didn't notice what they really were but the ones that did asked 'why pegs?' she replied: 'because my life is all about washing and domesticity!'.
Hope you;ve had a good day!

The cards are very sweet - I am glad you are getting over your gocco fears. And also very glad that Keira's quilt chased away the bad fish dreams. Those sound really scary.

I went to see a stunning exhibition with Kaffe Fassetts work a few years ago. It was hung among all the other stuff in a museum, with lots of humour and style. He had actually knit a giant hat for a giant bronze Buddha. I have loved him ever since. :) Your mum is very skilled and talented. What a great gift!
Your gocco cards are so sweet and lovely!

your mum has a blog? how cool is that? I see you have followed in her crafty footsteps. when i saw the quilt in your flickr photostrem i thought you had made it..and kept wondering how you get so much accomplished with two small ones. and how lame is it I never seem to get anything accomplished!
those gocco cards are so precious....lookign foward to your future efforts.
