new pants and some gardening

Garden1

We had some good garden-time over the weekend, cleaning up after what has felt like a long winter- digging up the weeds and planting herbs. Arlo is very excited about his wee patch- he has some parsley, mint and silverbeet so far.

And I was excited to find the first poppy of the season, waiting to ... pop?

And with all this outdoor work, new pants were in order. I made some navy blue cords for Arlo, with the last of this great hedgehog fabric (bought from here) on the pockets.

He's been asking me for this exact pair for a long time. He even knew which fabric he wanted for the pocket lining (red gingham). Is that a bit wierd? Whenever I make baby shoes from the hedgehog fabric, he looks over and says 'I hope you're saving enough of that for my blue pants, mama.'

And these are Keira's new shorts, made from grey pincord and some sweet folksy-print linen from my mum for the pockets. I used my usual pants design, but just widened and shortened the lower leg part.

And it seems I can't leave anything applique-free.

You are so talented and artistic! I have enjoyed visiting!

cute. I luv that arlo has fabric love already.... hehe and that little heart applique.... gorgeous.
luv Abby

good on Arlo for having a wee bit of garden

like the pants and shorts

It must be hard work gardening. Can't understand & do any part of it myself.

More loving homemade clothes for the children. Very nice! :)

These pants are great, I love the idea of the pockets on the outside, very creative. The garden is looking very well, I love spring when everything starts to bloom. -kb

I musst get into the garden...zucchini's are flourishing, but I'm scared Jack Frost will make a late appearance if I plant them out. A obviously knows what he likes- good on him!

I love how Arlo knew what he wanted his pants to look like! :) I think he has good taste:) Love the hedgehog fabric.

that is so sweet! I love that he knows what he wants, like with the scarf you made - a wee designer in the making! cx

Beautiful pants...
You know poppys are my favourite flowers (i love the wildness in them and how they are so extravangant dressers:) and it's nice to know when there are no longer poppies here this season, they are growing somewhere else - thanks for reminding me that!

I don't think it's weird that Arlo knows what he wants with fabric and clothes, it just shows that he's got great taste and a good eye, quite possibly inherited from you. The pants are gorgeous. My FIL came and tidied the garden for us and pulled out all of my poppies thinking they were weeds...

How cool is Arlo?! And also, how bossy... ;)!

Those corduroy pants are adorable...I'm hoping you make some of those for the shop!

Very impressed with your (and Arlo's!) gardening, by the way. You're reminding me of one of the key reasons we're thinking of moving from NYC to California. What kind of yumminess do you make from your garden treasures?

i love when they get all specific on you! way cute pants!

I've been gardening lots these holidays, too. Most satisfying.

Your children are so lucky to have a creative, thoughtful mother! xx

i love seeing spring evolve over there as we are winding down up here.

what colour are the poppies going to be? I planted some in my garden last year and they all came up a lovely pink :-)

I'm glad Arlo got his hedgehog pants :) I bet he loves wearing them.

What a cutie Arlo is! Love the ceanothus at the top, the glossy leaves and blue puffballs of flowers would make such a pretty patterned fabric!

Red gingham isn't an obvious choice...! its so sweet how specific Arlo was with his pants, perhaps you have a director of design on premise already?
take care

cute, cute pants!

a + k have got some great fashion sense! love that a knew exactly what he wanted for his pants... not weird at all! i think it's so nice that he knows that this is a form of creative expression as well.
and i'm living vicariously through your garden... how i miss digging in the dirt! sigh. hoping that my next place will have at least a fire escape for potted plants, or a community garden nearby...
