bird pockets
Here's a little pinafore I made for Keira from some crisp brown cotton, and vintage bird fabric I've had in my stash for a while for the pockets and facings. I'm thinking it would be an equally good piece to have in winter too, made in wool with a soft cotton lining. I used this Simplicity pattern from 1978:
I've always loved this square neck style, and am wondering if an adult version of this would be acceptable? It ties at the back, ready for wearing over anything else you might have on... kind of like an apron which I suppose is why I like this style so much.
In other news, I'm really enjoying the new album by Arcade Fire, Neon Bible. I love the full orchestral force of it- accordians, choirs, organs, dark religious themes. Here's a clip for 'My body is a cage'- ahh, so dramatic and good.

Awesome clip - thanks for the link.

i think my fave songs are 'haiti', 'headlights look like diamonds', and of course 'tunnels' and 'wake up'. but they don't have a bad song - how is that possible?
oh, and i just saw the 'shout out louds' last night - very fun! i think you'd like them. they have streaming songs on their site:

I have an adult-sized square-neck pattern which I'd be happy to send you if you really want one!

So cute. I've been looking for a pattern similar to this for myself. I'd love it to wear over long-sleeves in the fall and winter... hides the post-baby tummy ;) and cute to boot.

I'm off to Ebay to see if I can find that same pattern! I absolutely love the ties in the back....... and of course..... the square neckline. I love them as well!

I HAVE that pattern! It belonged to my mom! I am not sure if she ever made it or not...

What a coincidence, I just bought the very same pattern last week at the craft festival, and some vintage kitty fabric. When I finish up the little apron I will send you a picture!

I love vintage patterns - timeless and so much more cute than today's children's clothing.

i think that would for sure be perfect for an adult to wear over anything... like jeans or wool pants :) hmm... with a long sleeved super thin hoody type thing.. wow, im really inspired to make somehting like that, its starting to get cold here.

That pinafore is so great (and so are the pictures of it- how did you take them? by a window?) We are big arcade fire fans around here, for awhile neon bible was Ari's best dance-to-sleep album. Now he just rocks out.

The pinafore is cute! :) I like it as it's very much aprony as well.
* I'm sorry I missed your birthday post. Happy belated birthday! Lots of moving past days & I won't have the internet in a while. Today's a bonus. I'll love to send you something. Will be returning to S'pore in Nov and that'll be in my to-do list. :) *

Gorgeous pinafore - I think it would work for an adult too.

I would wear an adult version of that! :) So cute!

I think that an adult version would be totally acceptable, very useful in fact, sadly I don't think us big people would look quite so cute in one though!

love the dress... and love those patterns:)

I've just been reading about Arcade Fire this afternoon, they sound terrific, although the article was more about their hijinks during a concert and the way they get on together, than their actual music.
love, A.

I love that pinafore! As for the adult version, I have a smock with a square neckline, very similar to your pinafore but with long and loose sleeves. It's quite cute if I say so myself. I say go for it :)
