start of the season
Yesterday was bright and clear and Tom was home from school, so we took the children to the beach for the afternoon. We tested the water, which wasn't too bad, considering the snow on the mountains in the background. We're all feeling ready for the swimming season.
We ate icecream, dug some holes, and K threw sand at A, the usual thing.
We don't usually go to the beach during the week, but we wanted to do something together because today Tom left for 2 weeks in the UK. He is joining a team of three other teachers from NZ to check out schools and learn more about the education system there.
Here he was standing beside his luggage this morning, ready to go to the airport. Last night, in exchange for him threading up my overlocker (I can't do it myself!) I ironed a LOT of shirts, mended two pairs of his favourite vintage wool trousers, and gave him a new wool jacket for his travels.
Bon Voyage, T...

wishing Tom well and that he learns all kinds of neat things to bring back to your local education system. :o)
The beach looks inviting.

Are you North Island or South Island? Your photo of mountains across the water looks a lot like where I live in Alaska.

I like that- "just the usual" about the sand throwing. It sounds like my brother!
Here's wishing Tom and you both smooth sailing for the next two weeks. Michael is planning to go into customs next year, which involves an 8 week course in Auckland in Jan- I'm not sure I could cope with 2 weeks, not sure how I'll go with 8!

oh wow Melissa! you sound like you have it all under control... where is he going? It'll be interesting to hear his thoughts - as you know my dp has now taught in the UK and NZ, and although he prefers it here, his opinion is that both have the same probs/limitations and joys... the usual not enough time, money, discipline, love *sigh* Teachers are paid better in the UK though LOL
I hope you guys get by OK for the next couple of weeks - i wish I could be closer to help you out!

Has he packed his wellies as it's raining here (in England) again!?
I hope the two weeks pass smoothly for you, how lovely to spend a family day together before his departure.

It's just turning autumn here in the UK, a lovely time to be over, if a little grey and moody. I do so like his big leather manbag. I've been looking for a bag like that forever, with zilch success!

He'll need his new jacket- it's getting pretty chilly here! Hope he enjoys himself in 'old Blighty'!

I like the beach during the week. It somehow feels different than on a weekend. Not as many people about or something. I am another wife that has a traveling hubby. Hope your two weeks pass in a flash.
