Retro

This great retro fabric arrived in the mail today from Kimberley. It's going to be my Flashback Friday picture for today, because I couldn't find one to fit the theme which is 'music'. Kind of ironic since almost my entire childhood was spent behind a cello or piano, and between me and my siblings we could form a string quartet plus flute. But I'm not sure that i'd want to share those photos anyway... let's just say, Tom likes to tease me that I was part of the NZ-version of the Von Trapp family.

But, this fabric. It really shouts 'early-80's' to me- I'm sure i had a bedspread made from it. Thanks, k.

This is the cover of a book that Keira picked up at the Recycling Centre yesterday- and HAD to have and carry with her everywhere since then- 'Zaunkonig Tick-Tick.' With a name like that, do you blame her? She was desperate for me to read it to her last night, but being in German, I had to make up my own story to the pictures.

I studied German at school and even went there on a short exchange- but I don't remember a thing of the language. It's so sad how quickly it goes, if you don't use it every day. But this book has really nice woodland-y illustrations, anyway.

Arlo went to town with Tom yesterday and got a new train to add to his collection ('Emily' with batteries, for those in the Thomas-zone). When he got home he was excitedly showing Keira, but she was holding up her Tick-Tick book and saying 'well, I got a new book, it's really cool, look at my book!'

I like that about children- depending on your point of view, a toy worth 20 cents can be just as good as an expensive one. For now, anyway.

I like the retro fabric very cute
and
I like the picture of the snail

Special K sent me some of that, too - isn't it sweet?

It made me smile lots this morning.

I love the flashback fabric. I take my kids to the opshop to spend their pocket money and they always get a lot out of it!

The fabric reminds me of strawberry shortcake although I've not been acquainted with any of her cartoons and toys when very young til now.

Is it hard having to make up stories? :) I like children who like books.. and trains. Becos I like them myself too. Ha!

OH MY GOD
I've been looking for that fabric in opp shops for 10 years now! It was my childhood curtain fabric! I don't like to beg but please please please pretty please can I have a tiny bit of it? Even just a square? I will swap you/ pay you anything you want!
(I know, calm down. But reeaaallly!).

Love the fabric and the book... and you're so right... My 2,5 year old RAFA will go crazy over a baloon:)
I miss him dearly beacause he's been away for the week at his grandmothers. I made him a snake out of this fabric i had... hahahah he'll love it:)

We have just taken our boys to a 'Thomas the Tank engine' day out on the Bolton Abbey to Embsay steam railway. We went out on Percy and back on Diesel and saw the Fat Controller! Brilliant day out. Do you have them over there?http://www.embsayboltonabbeyrailway.org.uk/index.html

Kids and toys are certainly an interesting dynamic. Jack went through a phase where if he saw hotwheels at a yard sale he thought he had to have them ALL. Now? He will nicely sit down and choose whatever number I tell him to pick out and he is perfectly content with that. (I vary the number so he practices counting to different numbers. LOL)

I love the fabric, very sweet. I was a huge fan of Victoria Plum when younger and the fabric reminds me of that.

We have a book here that my mum found which is all in French about a slug called "Grace a la Limace" - hilarious.

I'm sure someone German will put me right, but I think that looks like a wren (one of my favourite birds!) Cx (Infact have just looked up a book I have "Vogel des Waldes" - as you do - and Zaunkonig is in fact troglodytes troglodytes - yup big name for a wee bird) xx

i think i had sheets very similar to that too as a child! :)
xo

Beautiful fabric! It's too bad you don't remember your German. My son would love that book. He is 3 and fluent (my husband is German). The illustrations do look quite lovely. Great find.

The fabric is just lovely! My favorite has to be that snail! Any plans for your perfect finds?

very cute Melissa!

Very often my younger two daughters (ages 5 and almost 8) will want to bring home books from the library in Spanish. :o)

that book looks lovely. arlo must be really happy with his emily. the grandparents keep buying those plastic thomases for sebastian and i really have no love for them. it is overwhelming. we put them on the top of his closet and he never asks about them. when he visits his grandparents he takes them with him and plays with them there. of course, this backfires a bit because he is so happy for the opportunity to play that the grandparents run out and buy new ones for the collection and there are always new ones, aren't there? anyway, hope you are having a wonderful weekend. take care. xo

swoon!! that fabric is tooooo much!

The Zaunkönig is the "king of the fence". I don't know why though, maybe those little birds make so much noise. I really like the fabric you got.

fabric for flashback friday... great idea!

I do hope you give some to R, she sounds very excited :)

Glad you liked the fabric. I would have kept some for myself, but I don't sew! Another lot went to the Queen of Quirky Dolls Ms Dayglo Days. Enjoy... K xx
