garden soup
It's a beautiful warm day today- one could almost get ideas that spring is on its way. Don't want to tempt fate though. Today's activity has been making 'garden soup'- do you remember doing this as a child? Just take a mixing bowl, add some ingredients from around the garden- dirt, leaves, stones, water from the hose...
and stir liberally with a wooden spoon or stick.
This kept A and K busy for an hour or more. If only we'd had rose petals, we could have made 'perfume'- my favourite childhood activity. Must start saving my empty vanilla essence and medicine bottles for this purpose.
I made a few adult scarves as a special order last week. i'm usually quite nervous about making grown-up things but I really enjoyed doing these. I used pieces of cotton and light wool fabrics patched together for one side, and backed them in matching stretch cotton which gave a bit of weight and softness. I also decided to make them quite wide, almost like a wrap/shawl design for extra cosiness. I might make some for friends over the next couple of days.
Hope your weekend is the kind that allows for some crafting and/or chocolate for breakfast.

They're beautiful, M. I love the bird one you're wearing.
Your blog has been a lovely tonic this week while I've been feeling so horribly sick.
xx Helen

We had a creek running through our property (the other side of the fence and I played in when I was much bigger than A and K) but I would spend hours "puddling" away...I'm a pisces :) One of my favourite garden ingredients was a soft old log that crumpled away when you rubbed it (porridge). Lovely grown up scarves! (You should make more big people things)

oh wow, chocolate for breakfast. sure!
great new store that is stocking you, I checked them out :) and I think you did a great job on those new baby booties. It looks like you used the new embroidery pieces you found recently, and you highlighted all the good parts so well.:)
I haven't had much motivation to sew lately so your blog is making me sigh.

I love the scarves Melissa! They look so good and cuddly, which is so important in a scarf, and which you miss out a little in some knitted scarves, I find.
We used to spend our childhood days making 'potpurri'. we'd gather the flower petals and put purfume and airfreshner (ew!) on them and put them in the hot water cupboard. Then they'd either go rotten or mum would throw them away and we'd never notice. oh dear... the things you do as kids.
Speaking of which, just after our little phone call and our giggling over the little 'incident' I walked into my room and aesop had taken all the tampons out of a box and taken the wrappers off and SUCKED them? Oh my goodness. I couldn't help but laugh, because I knew you would. I hope its just coincidence and he doesn't grow up to be too much of a weirdo.
Good luck for sunday! wish I could be there! xx

I do remember garden soup!! sometimes it's like you are in my head. How do you make the rose "perfume". I use to make my own treasure maps, too. I would rip up pieces of brown paper bag, draw my map out and then crumple it up, spill leftover coffee or water color on it and flatten it out to dry. The more you crumple the more "leather" like it gets. Fun, fun. Your scarves are lovely. You should definately make some to sell in your etsy shop. Hmm, wonder who might purchase such a thing?

The bird print looks perfect as/on a scarf. A lovely piece to keep anyone warm. :)
Will like to read about how the "perfume" is made one day.

Those are really neat scarves! You have given me a great idea for Christmas gifts! I love how you experiment with different textures and colors. Thanks for the inspiration!! :-) Playing with dirt and leaves and such is such a de-stresser sometimes. ;-)Looks like it was fun.

Don't let the warmer weather fool you! It did the same thing to the northern hemisphere back in February. Then it got really cold again. Weather is such a tease sometimes. :-)

And here I was thinking I was the only little kid who hoarded fallen rose petals for "perfume."
That is one *terrific* scarf. I'm inspired!
I also meant to comment on the embroidered booties you made...so perfect.

We called it Godzilla Soup, for it was what tempted him out of his lair.
Thanks for sharing.
