flashback friday and a spring table

Flashback_friday

I've been enjoying checking out Flashback Friday each week, and thought I'd join in today. I couldn't resist sharing this picture of my Dad, brother, sister and I on the farm four-wheeler circa 1986. I'm the one on the right. That dog in the background is Kelly. Nothing much has changed, you know- I still like riding motorbikes, wearing braces with my jeans and matching my outfit with my sister's...

Spring_table

This is the little dresser by our front doorway and yesterday the children and I made a 'spring display.' We try to change it with each season, but I'm afraid to say I had to clear away the autumn display - it's been a busy few months...

We had great fun searching the house for spring-ish pictures, (in the background is a card from Caireen, my calendar pages from this wonderful swap, and a set of bird postcards from needlebook) and then the garden for new life- we found camellia, narcissi and lavender, and planted some wee succulents in a paua shell. Arlo wanted to include the stones, he said they reminded him of spring because they 'weren't so cold to sit on anymore'.

It's a good way to acknowledge and welcome in a new season with little ones.

you were a cutie with a nice smile

I like your 'spring display' :)

There are lots of motorbike photos in our albums too! I like the idea of a spring display, welcoming the season indoors, great science exploration with your littlies :)

beautiful, it reminds me of a little shrine to spring. For some reason i remember that photo. One friday I will try and find one that has us both in it as children. xxx

what cute children you were :o)
looks like you were having fun riding with Dad.
My children all have grown from about 1 1/2 years old riding with their Daddy around the block on his motorcycle...memories.

what a wonderful way to share the seasons with the family as a seasonal display.

Enjoy your spring weather!

Good to see other contry girls joining up to Flashback Friday!
You are too cute...
Leah xx

Such a cute picture - I love those old photo colour tones! (I was going to say 70's but yikes 86! I was spikey haired art student by then!) Your Dad looks so chuffed - hey, look what I just grew! I like the spring arrangement - it's nice to have little still lifes you can change with your inspiration. Glad to see you are feeling better xx

What a sweet photo of your family. I love the spring altar you created with your kids. What a wonderful momento and they can add to it as they find things. That is something they will remember and take with them as they grow.

Love those hens and chicks in the sea shell :)

Flashback Friday seems like fun!
Loved reading a bit about your memories:)

Awwww look at you guys in your red shirts. The seasonal dresser idea is great! If I had kids I'd totally do that. Love all the birdie pics too - very you.

I don't know about you guys but my garden is bursting with green finches at the moment. The feline companions are beside themselves with excitement and coughing up loads of feathers which is not only gross but makes me really sad for the wee finches.

Great photo Melissa. Every farm kid loved riding on the motorbike with Dad! Glad to know you still like matching your clothes with your sister's.

Great retro photo - loving the jandals as opposed to gumboots action happening there!
Season display is a great idea too. Beautiful blooms you have there :)

I love your seasonal display. Reminds me that I must change ours - it's definitely feeling like spring lately.

what a lovely display! i love the anticipation that spring brings! and the pic of you and your sibs is awesome!

I have been enjoying your site for a few weeks now and thought I'd finally comment and let you know. I love hearing about all the NZ flora and fauna!

What a sweet little spring display you've made. We also try to keep a seasonal table going, but sometimes we skip a season, which reminds me that it's almost time for an autumn table.
Cute family photo, too!

I will have to try and dig out a very similar photo from my childhood - looks like happy times!

hurrah for spring!! i love the new display (especially the bit about the stones!)
and the flashback photo is just adorable. i recognized you right away :) very cute!
xox

I love the little spring display! What a great idea to change it for each season!
