other people's shopping lists
Thank you for your kind words about Arlo's shopping list- actually i was a little hesitant about sharing another habit of mine- I like to stop and read any stray shopping lists I might find at the supermarket. If you keep your eyes peeled you'd be surprised by how many are left behind. But then Ruth left a comment about a whole website full of found shopping lists, so if you are a bit nosey like me, i insist you take a look here. I found these strangely compelling to look through... I think this one with the prices was one of my favourites... I wonder what 'gooey butter' is? I can also report back that a lot of people like to buy french fries and meat.
In crafty news, I listed a few more bags in my etsy shop, including this rosy one:
and one made from some fabric i found a long time ago:
... winter trees with seagulls.
It's a beautiful winter's day here today, cold but with a brilliant blue sky over us, and I've just spent half an hour sitting outside with my coffee- one child is at kindergarten, another asleep. Small breaks like that during the day are like treasure, aren't they?
I have to share this beautiful fabric that arrived in the post- a surprise gift from Vanessa who lives in Auckland. She ordered a wrap-cardy for her daughter, and sent this beautiful length of vintage fabric to say thank you:
I love it such a lot, I'm currently trying to decide where to hang it. She wrote that it used to be a curtain in the home of her husband's mother in Southland. I love the texture, and the way the design has a hand-printed effect. The leaves could almost be drawn in felt-tip pen:
Green, red, black and mustard-yellow. So good.

wow - that's an incredible piece of fabric - how very kind of Vanessa. And should you be making any more little booties for 6-12 mo do let me know!
:)

The tree bag is delightful. I love wintery trees - so English.
I'm just getting ready for a making binge for craft 2.0 and my studio looks like an explosion in an op shop - but I'm looking forward to using my hands instead of my brain/computer for a bit - it's been too long.
xx Helen

Lovely how the bag mirrors the photo (or vice versa?) I do love the winter trees also- but looking forward to the spring time blossums!

I love the shopping list thing (so it's not just me) - they are like 'found poems' - just that spontaneous sometimes beautiful window into someone's life/mind. I do love Arlo's, and that you wait before labelling it after j.i.c!! Did you add his to the shop list site? I think it's very worthy of consideration!
Do you remember taking the list and handing it over to the shopkeeper - I'd like to see their interpretation without 'notes' by mum x
..another thing kind of related.. I collect receipts that say strange things - more found poetry, and have a relative who I recently found does the same! Eg. I have one for Self Esteem £2.29 (it was a cd title) Liberation £14.99 , Happy for Sad £3.60 (soap) and Time £6.99 - idea for a post one day! they are fading now, so I should get into scanning/photo-ing them at the time...
Great posts this week. Cxxx

Hi Melissa I have a bag out of the rose fabric too but I love your one with the tree. I have a photo on my blog of two bags I made with your pattern. I love the flowery one so much I'm keeping it and making another for my friend. X Gill

I often leave my grocery list in the cart when I leave the store. I love to see what other make lists about. Oh, and you know what. . . I love trees! I really really mean that, so that bag you put up in your store is so tempting to me right now. Are you tourturing me on purpose? hmmm?

It would be very strange if that shopping list you linked to was actually from St Louis, BUT, here in St Louis we eat something called Gooey Butter Cake.
Here is a link to a recipe and an explanation:

Oh my goodness I love that tree bag! A bit disappointed that it is already sold, although I probably shouldn't be making any purchases right now anyways.... :)

and i could spend hours on that grocery list site... i had to click away quickly! i always stare at the contents of other people's carts at the grocery store. all so so different and a little glimpse into their lives.
