birthday season

There seem to be a lot of birthdays around this time of year. Yesterday was the birthday of a good friend, who we visited and were lucky enough to share her most delicious carrot cake with cream cheese icing. I'm now trying to think of a way to have some of this cake in the house at all times. Freezing large quantities, perhaps? It might be my new favourite food.

Yesterday also included coffee in our closest cafe,

Coffee

and endless fun: running around the best tree in the park near our house...

Racing

I just sit nearby and watch. Apparently, two small children have a lot of energy for this sort of thing.

We have another borthday to celebrate today- my niece Phoebe's 2nd. I made her a little blue teddy, and a top to match. Just because.

yay! it really is coffee season. I've been drinking a lot more coffee than usual - it's so nice to drink though. The wee teddy is so cute. Do you have a fire place that you keep lit during the day? I would love to read a blog about a winters day. I am working away next to the heater.

Carrot cake freezes amazingly well, and defrosts quickly too - it is all the hidden oil and sugar...

He's a cutesy little bear. Would you believe I have that blue floral fabric you have used on him in a pillowcase too?

Mmmm, carrot cake.

Adorable bear - your family must be so spoiled with tinyhappy goodness!

That coffee looks good, too, I wish I could share one with you this weekend!

What a cutie pie bear- love his eyes! I'm enjoying some banana cake at the moment- with chocolate sauce, but cream cheese carrot cake is my all time favourite!

I love the idea of a top to match the bear - cute!

Gorgeous little matching bear and top!

mmm.... carrot cake......

What a cute teddy bear and top! :)

Didn't you know that June is a great month to be born? :) (Although, my birthday is also in June so I might be a little bit biased on that:) It does seem like there are a lot of June birthdays though...

carrot cake. yum. must have at all times! i can't get over how much kiera has grown. look at her running. and that sweet hat!

Yum - that coffee looks great, and such a nice cup - great photos. Looks like a lovely day... Cx

Endless energy, kids have endless engergy! It's unbelieveable. The base of that tree looks ingredible, I imagine the rest of it is spectacular. I love trees. I also love carrot cake. Cream cheese icing is the best! (I also have a soft spot for red velvet cake, my mom made it the best and the deep red color was over the top.)

I love carrot cake - funnily enough for my husband's birthday we made him one from a Delia recipe (http://www.deliaonline.com/recipes/low-fat-moist-carrot-cake,1130,RC.html) which was absolutely delicious!

Going through your posts everything looks lovely - especially those leaf-mobiles you made. Autumn is such a beautiful time of year.

Sorry it's been a while without comment - life + sickly chicken = frazzled Tash!

That is such an adorable little bear. :-)

Whenever I am shredding carrots for carrot cake, I generally shred enough for at least 4 or 5 cakes at a time. I divide the shredded carrots into separate small freezer bags, premeasuring the amount needed for my carrot cake recipe into each bag.

It's not ready made carrot cake in the house all the time, but at least that one step is eliminated when I feel like baking one. ;-)

That shirt and bear are so sweet- Happy birthday to your niece! I remember when I was a kid thinking that adults were so boring to just sit and watch kids play, but now I've become one of those sit-and-watch-the-fun sort of adults!

The teddy and the top is beautiful!
Have a great saturday :)

You know how I love matching things and oh that sweet top and teddy, it puts a smile on my face! Thanks for the cake complements, yours today was delicious too. I love how sticky and moist carrot cake is (nothing worse than dry cake!).

oh, oh, oh! could this be the queen's gardens and the cafea the Suter of which you write?! How we miss the new zealand cafes and the fluffies for kids!

Actually, I think I recognise that material. I think it was a pillowslip I sent you ages and ages ago.

carrot cake is e's favorite. i think he could happily have it for breakfast, lunch, + dinner. i am not so big on the cake, but the icing... mmm...
