the trip

I made these little i-pod cases at the special request of two friends who have newly acquired one of these nifty little gadgets. I'd never seen an i-pod before so Tom printed out a little cardboard make-it-yourself version from the internet so I could make sure the cases are the right size.

Ipodcovers

I made them a little bigger than the i-pod so they could also store the cord and headphones in there too. I made the little button-loops from plaited embroidery floss. They were a super-easy and quick project, but I think if i had a non-cardboard i-pod of my own, I might order one of these felted covers made by Kimberlee over at  anemone crafts. Very sweet.

Have you seen the work of Ezra Jack Keats before? Arlo and I are in love with our copy of The Snowy Day, but yesterday I found his book 'The Trip.' Both the story and illustrations (especially the way in which painting techniques are combined with pieces of photo collage i.e. sky-scrapers, children's faces, etc.) are beautiful, and it's a book that I think will stay in my heart for a long time. And hopefully in the childrens', too.

Clearly, our next crafting project will have to be a peep-show from an old shoe-box.

oh, we love ezra jack keats - but i haven't seen that book before. must check it out. i saw a thing about him once and while most people assume he's african-american, he's actually russian-american and that's not his original name.
interesting, huh?

Jack is really into The Snowy Day right now, even though he really hates snow. The "peep show" thing is funny to me, because "peep show" well, implies something other than a child's diorama in a box!

Oh how i love that cardinal fabric! I wish I could find more fabrics like that where I live.
As for children's books, they are just magical. One of the real highlights of teaching young children!

It's great you made space for the headphones and cord. I never buy mass produced covers for the iPod, there's just no right place for it. :-) The book is an eye-opener.

Hi!
I like your ipod cases, what a great idea adding exra space for headphones! I was wondering if you could send me the links to the coardboard make-it-yourself template. I have been using my real ipods to display my crochet cases when at markets and this is making me very nervous. If someone walked of with it, I would have to sell 33 ipod covers to buy a new one! So I would rather use a dummy.
The illustrations in that book are quite unique, I like them a lot.
hoep youb had a good weekend! :)

We love Ezra Jack Keats here. We own Whistle for Willie and just checked out Hi, Cat. We also like The Snowy Day. I'll have to check out The Trip. Your ipod cozies are cute. :0)

I love that you printed out and made a cardboard ipod - how resourceful is that!!!
I want to try making an ipod cosy from an old silk tie - but I havn't got an ipod either - I think I could 'borrow' my sons!
Nice book

oh my, my i-pod (extenson of my ears) is going to be so happy living in any one of those! You are a clever thing Melissa!

And Ezra Jack Keats...truly wonderful.

xx

Crikey - think I know which one is mine... My ipod can't wait to get dressed in it. you rule! K xxx

the i-pod cozies are perfect! i confess that i have an i-pod that e gifted me for christmas, and i have loaded songs onto it... yet it intimidates me a bit and i have yet to listen to it. i think he is losing patience with my slow adjustment to new technology so i need to get used to it :)

Love that kid's artist - I'm into city scapes lately - Eric Carle does great city scapes, too.

xx Helen

i love my ipod...let me tell you. never go anywhere without it these days.

Those cases are fantastic, as are your skirts. You are so darned talented!
