iceblock weather
We're having a bit of a heatwave: our first week of relentless sunshine in a while. Today's been a great day for splashing in the paddling pool and eating lemonade iceblocks outside under a tree:
I made this brown skirt last week, as I feel it's officially too hot around here to be wearing jeans. The pattern is New Look #6433 and it was very simple to make up. At least, it would be, if I was better at putting in zips.
I used a light brown linen-cotton blend, which, as you can see, was folded up on the shelf for a long while before I cut it up. Hopefully those crease lines will wash out eventually? Also some darker brown cotton for the waistband, and brown ribbon (which is actually vintage 'hem binding tape' kindly sent to me by Laura) to tie at the top.
This is the back:
The patches are appliqued bits from an old shirt I found a long time ago at the op-shop. Brown and red poppies, what could be nicer?

nice skirt,
How long is it? Knee length? mid calf? I am sure it would be lovely either way.
Glad you guys are getting some beautiful sunshine, yea for iceblock days!

I initially forgot that you are on another hemisphere. I was thinking, heat?! There's no heat!
Glad you are finally enjoying a bit of sunny weather! I'm actually still not tired of our winter weather just yet, but your adorable popsicle-wielding kiddies are beginning to make me think otherwise. Looks lovely...

I love your skirt. Its so hot up here I can only wear obscenely short mini skirts which means I cannot leave the house!

Wow haven't Arlo and Keira grown?? Just a bit! Lovely pic.... mmmmm lemonade ice lollies, will have to make some of those! I really like the skirt you made. Great colour and with the little special details, very nice! I'm wearing skirts more again too.... on a diet to fit into others at the mo, ha! Lovely to read your blog, will now continue!!

yes, your dearies have certainly grown!
I like the sound of lemonade ice lollies that Debra said. Sounds way nicer than Popsicles like we say. LOL!
Very cute skirt.
I have been thinking that since I now have 3 wool skirts that I love I need some tights so I can actually wear them...no pantyhose.
Bet that makes you feel even hotter eh? :o)
I am freezing with all the cold wind and rain but am glad the snow is gone...much warmer nights around here.

Your grown ups clothes are as lovely as your little clothes, I saw Tamsin in a lovely Autumn leaves skirt last week. It's so werid to read about your Northern Hemisphere friends snuggled up in their jarmies when we're in mid summer. Are you planning your winter range though? I'm begining to think about long pants and wooly hats for the Easter Fair. The walnut tree in your garden yesterday looks very tranquil I'd be lying under that daydreaming in this hot weather.

gorgeous kids!!! don't they look content? We're sweltering here too - many an ice lolly been licked here this week, I can tell you! AND we drove down to Auckland today - phew! *grin* They've got such beautiful eyes your smallies, and don't they look alike?
Brilliant skirt too! My dp thinks it's funny but all I ever wear is brown (and variations on a brown theme!). So i'm TOTALLY loving that skirt! ha ha

Always fun to see kids eatting ice in the sun while I see snow outside my window. The skirt is lovely, I'm loving the ribbon.

Yeah for a bit of hot weather finally! It couldn't be summer with out it. I agree that the skirts must come out when the temperature rises. You've made a great one there!
