blue and brown

I had a wonderful peaceful weekend with some of Sunday spent at the beach again. The wind was violent and cold, but made the sea beautiful.

Sea_1

I rediscovered The Be Good Tanyas by way of their new album Hello Love. (Thanks, Amelia, for sharing...) I can't get enough of them, it's such exquisite music.

I made this top over the weekend- the first time I've sewn myself something in ages...

Denimtop

I used Simplicity pattern #7884 and some drapey denim/silk fabric given to me by Rhiannon (thanks, again!), a hand-carved manuka button and some vintage ribbon to fasten at the back. (I think my choice of these details was quite influenced by that Japanese book, can you tell?)

Backdetail

I also did two small appliques from some 70's brown-and-blue floral cotton I had lying around.

Hope you had a nice weekend too. xx

wow that's really beautiful melissa! and you told me you couldn't do adults cothing! Perhaps there needs to be a 'bigger happy' as well : )

I was exhilarated to hear that The Be Good Tanyas was to release a new album and I love Hello Love. It is softer and more laid back than their previous stuff and, somehow, I miss a lively happy track on it.
Beautiful top by the way!

Fabulous top! Gorgeous flower applique.

beautiful. a picture of you wearing it one day perhaps?

Oh that's so pretty!

Pretty top! :-)

what a beautiful top!

way to go melissa! every time i try to maek something for myself it becomes an absolute mess! if you are under 3...no prob. i absolutely love it!

Great top!! You are soo talented!! :) Happy Tuesday!

That top is great, is it cut on the bias? i want to make something like it, something easy out of non stretchy fabric that looks simple and elegant, just like the one you made, must check out simplicity patterns...

Wow, you have great imagination, I just looked up the pattern on ebay and the pictures on the front are awful, how did you know that it would make such a great top with the right choice of fabric! I wouldn't have bought the pattern just looking at the pattern sleeve, but I think I might now! I saw this really smooth bamboo fabric in town, it's kind of like linen i think, it feels lovely and cool. It's quite pricey though. did you need much for the top?
