crafting it up

Frostyweb

Thank you for all your kind, supportive comments about me going to Craftwerk this weekend, I think you've made the difference between me being able to act calmly and with sanity today and tomorrow, rather than overcome with nerves. I am still quite nervous, though. I have to try and remember to breathe normally, also to not get too hyped up tomorrow at the fair itself. I remember last year, when I first started doing my weekly craft fair at the local market, I would get so hyped up and excited/nervous, that I would sometimes say strange things to people. And probably make them feel nervous and wierd too. Like once, a woman was looking at the baby shoes I had made, and said 'Oh you make some lovely things!' And i said 'thank you! So do you!' And then an awkward silence followed. But I hope to learn from that this time.

Here are some bags I finished today, which I'll take along with me tomorrow. They're made using my usual tote-bag patten and a real mixture of recycled and vintage fabrics. The bag on the right is mostly 1950s barkcloth, with grey velveteen which I think was an off-cut from some car seat covers. And children's brushed-cotton print inside.

If you're going to be in Wellington tomorrow, come and say hi, because I'd love to meet you.

I'm sooooooo excited for tommorrow. I hope we make ka-jillions. I'm a little nervous about being paired with someone so talented as yourself, but hey, I'll cope : )

Great looking bags! I'm sure it was a smashing success.

i second rebeccas commnet...I only WISH I could be in wellington...we are quickly approacheing the anniversary of the departure to New Zealand and I find my mind dredging up all sorts of wonderful memories I have not thougth about all year.

I wish I had been more able to visit fairs whiel there. we did look upon on ein Aukland, but mostly I woul dread about them and realzie would not be in town on the right day. Where is the craft fair in Nelson held?

I know hwat you mean about feleign all excited and nervous too..hopefully your weekly experience will help you be more "appropriate" in Wellington, but then agian I think people at craft fairs probably make some strange comments too!

hope you have a fabulous weekend! those bags a re terrific! wish we were on that side of "the pond" and able to see all of those beautiful items!

i'm not sure what time it is for you there... if you're there now or it's over yet... but good wishes your way all the same! your bags are lovely and i am sure they will all be a great hit! and i empathize with the saying of strange things in times of nervousness. i once saw a girl i'd met once at a knitting circle, and couldn't think of anything to say at all, so blabbed something odd then stood with a dopey grin for what felt like many minutes. ouch. but i know that won't happen at craftwerk :)

Mmmm loving those bags!

I'm still smirking at the 'so do you' comment - thanks for sharing :-)

These are lovely bags! Do you use a pattern?

oooh! the one on the right is just divine. i have a thing for anything remotely turquoise/robin's egg at the moment. *love*
