new from old, little from big
I'm so excited about all the crafting ideas being posted over at the Wardrobe Refashion site and I can't wait to try some of them myself. But because lots of my fabric and equipment is packed up for the move, sewing seems like it will have to wait for a week or so. But I did start with just a small warm-up project this morning, to see what it was like to sew up pieces of knitted cotton-wool-blend type fabric. I had this old, stretched dark purple cardy:
which I cut into sections, then cut out again, according to the rough measurements of one of Keira's jackets. Then I sewed it up again, replaced the buttons with some rainbow-coloured vintage ones from my button tin, and did a bit of neck-band surgery from my carelessly hacked-up old cardigan. (I had to hide some of the rough sewing with a 'tiny happy' label.) And this is the wee version:
The sneaky trick that meant the whole project took an hour and a bit (including lunchtime!), was utilising all the pieces of the garment that had button-bands and hems originally. I just zig-zagged the shoulder and side seams after sewing them because I was too lazy to move from the heater to where the overlocker was.
It's nice to have a non-pink cardigan for Keira...

Clever! and it looks so cute! I can't believe you still have time for sewing in the middle of packing to move house! You're a superhero! :)

Superhero indeed!!! That's so clever...sometimes the carelessly hacked up things are the most fun because it's so quick and you have something new instantly (well an hour and a half instantly).
I do hope your move goes smoothly :0)

That looks amazing! I have a pile of clothes I was supposed to give away, but decided I would re-model into clothing for Milo. I'll let you know when that happens.
